Abilities
Since Susan is the granddaughter of Death, and being “a little bit immortal”, she possesses a large range of unusual abilities.
As the granddaughter of Death, and being “a little bit immortal”, Susan has a large range of abilities. Susan can see the world as it really is - While most people will ignore things like tooth fairies and bogeymen, dismissing them as being “not real”, Susan can see them. She knows they’re
really there.
She can also walk through walls, make herself unnoticeable to humans, and make people forget about her. She can find anyone she wants to, as long as she knows their name.
Susan is also able to manipulate time, to an extent. She can stop time - although she describes it more as having her own personal time, entering a sort of time loop where everything stays still until she finishes what she needs to do. Essentially, she lives in time, but isn't bound by it.
She can remember the future, although this isn’t always helpful. Often this occurs in the form of fragmented images and dreams, that don't mean anything until she actually
gets to the future.
Susan can use Death's voice, which is
INDICATED BY SMALL CAPS and is described as being more like actions than words. It's describes as stating the way the universe will be - as such, other people are intimated by the voice, and will feel compelled to obey it.
She had also, on occasion, summoned the scythe of Death to her - but this is usually when she is filling in for Death.
Since she was seventeen, her hair has been capable of arranging itself into a new style all on its own. This is often disconcerting to other people.
Strengths
Her logical and sensible nature means that Susan always keeps her cool in dangerous situations - it takes a lot to rattle her. She is often the person who holds everything together when disaster strikes.
She doesn't get scared easily. In fact, Susan doesn't appear to get scared at all. Instead, Susan just gets angry, and uses that anger to her advantage.
Susan is particularly skilled at handling small children, thanks to her sensible personality and unusual tactics; if a child complains about a monster in the cupboard, she will hand them a sword. She finds that absurd insults are particularly effective. She also takes the view that children should grow up to be adults - as such, her philosophy of teaching is to give her students more advanced curriculum than normal for their age. After all, the point is to learn.
She is also good at maths and logic, thanks to her education. This helps her in her role as a schoolteacher - as does her ability to give the Look. The Look is very disconcerting to other people, even Death and authority figures. The Look is not threatening – it just makes you not want to see it ever again.
Susan has an affinity wield stick-like weapons, and is very good at any sports that involve stick like objects (such as hockey). However, she favours the fireplace poker. Also, while she apparently has not had any formal training with a sword, she doesn't appear to be uncomfortable using the weapon.
She can also whistle loudly by sticking two fingers in her mouth.
Weaknesses
While Susan is generally logical, her desire to always uncover the truth about mysteries means that she will sometimes investigate things that would, logically, be better left alone.
Particularly in relation to her grandfather, Susan will often do exactly what she has been told
not to do (even more so if she's been told to not worry about something, or stay out of it). This means that others (i.e. Death) can manipulate her into doing what they want just by telling her not to do it.
Her cool demeanour also means that making friendships is difficult for Susan. She admits herself that most of the people she knows well are actually her students - and small children don't make good friends. She also rarely has romantic relationships, mostly because she intimidates any potential boyfriend.
Her powers, while significant, also have limitations. While she can make herself invisible, people who are used to seeing things like Susan - such as wizards, cats, and children - can see her. Her abilities are also all tied to death, so in places where death is weakened or non-existence, her abilities will not work.
In the past, her logical nature conflicted with the fact that she was also a part of a very un-logical paranormal world, although this has lessened considerably. She still has the odd moment of, "this can't possibly be real!", however.
She does not possess any musical ability. At all. Neither does really appreciate things like poetry. As far as she’s concerned, poets can like daffodils all they want, but they shouldn’t take more than a page to say so.
